Mark Backhus, DDS
Dr. Mark Backhus is a native of California, born in Mountain View and raised in Santa Clara. He did his undergraduate work at San Jose State University before attending UCLA School of Dentistry where he graduated in 1992.
Dr. Mark moved to the Sacramento region in 1993 and began providing quality dental care to the area. In 1999, he transitioned into private practice in Carmichael. He is an active member of the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, and the Sacramento District Dental Society.
Dr. Mark, his wife Dr. Maryvette, and their two daughters, have lived in Carmichael since 2001. He enjoys spending time with family, traveling, skiing, and cycling.
Maryvette Backhus, DDS
Dr. Maryvette Backhus lived in Madrid, Spain for much of her younger years, attending and graduating from the American School of Madrid. She is fluent in Spanish and speaks some French. She continued her education in California, graduating from Santa Clara University with a degree in Biology. Dr. Maryvette earned her dental degree at the UCLA School of Dentistry in 1993. She now lives in Carmichael with her husband, Dr. Mark Backhus, and their two daughters. She enjoys reading, traveling and spending time with her family and four cats.

Laura Chezem, RDH:
I have been a Registered Dental Hygienist since 1989. I have had the good fortune to be with Dr. Backhus’ office since 1999. I love working with Drs. Mark and Maryvette because they are all about competence, high standards, and excellence but with it comes acceptance, love and lots of great care. I look forward to meeting you and serving your dental needs.
On my off time I can usually be found with one of my five wonderful grandchildren. I also love to knit, bike and garden.

I have been working in the dental field as a registered dental assistant for 20 years and I love it! At Drs. Mark and Maryvette’s office, we have great staff, great patients, and most of all wonderful doctors. Come join us and you’ll have professional care, kind words, and a caring atmosphere.

Laurie Lewis, Office Manager
I have been working in the dental field since 2008. I have worked in various positions ranging from dental assistant, x-ray technician, receptionist, patient care coordinator, to insurance biller. I enjoy working with all my patients here at our office.
